Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris and Josh Shapiro are all in a tight race to be the next 2028 Democratic Nominee. However, between them all, Ocasio-Cortez is undoubtedly the best pick if America wants to finally move forwards.

The 14th district New York Representative has held a Medicare-for-All position since the day she started her career, along with promoting ideas like The Green New Deal, expanding maternal and infant health care programs, abolishing ICE and has been one of the few US politicians to label what Israel is doing to Palestinians as a genocide. She has also sponsored bills that caps insulin at $35 for those on Medicare, expanded firearm background checks and closed federal loopholes for firearms, and secured $10 million to clean up toxic bombardment sites in Puerto Rico. Even with all of this, she is still miraculously not the leading contender for the nomination, with the current Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, always finding a spot in the top two.

Newsom's take on ‘Trumpism’ was like fighting fire with fire; he seemed to be one of the only Democrats to actually stand up to him, until he began using tacky AI videos and started to copy him a little… too much. Although it was refreshing to see a Democrat having a main ‘leader’ ever since the election, this stardom unfortunately did not last long, as the California Governor's opinions on just about everything changes like British weather.

When Renee Good was unlawfully killed by an ICE agent, his press office on X/Twitter tweeted “STATE. SPONSORED. TERRORSIM”. Shortly after, he was seen kee-keeing with Ben Shapiro on his own podcast, replying to Shapiro's comment that “Our ICE officers are obviously not terrorists, a tragic situation is obviously not state sponsored terrorism” with “that’s fair”. Backtracking accurate statements to please Ben Shapiro is an all new low for not even a politician but for anyone, and adding fuel to the fire, Newsom has donated money, not received, donated, to AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee). Other nominees like Kamala Harris get bought out by AIPAC for almost $5.4 Million, and in the same breath constantly expresses sympathy for Palestinians which could be regarded as more than confusing.

While Harris, and even Newsom, would have been better than Trump, pushing for the Affordable Health Act instead of universal healthcare, is still a let-down. The critique of there not being enough to fund it is a slap in the face after you see the amount of money Israel, Argentina, ICE and the US military receive, along with adding Trump's ball room to the white house. Giving a progressive the chance to at least try change The US instead of continuously running right leaning centrism that again, would be better than Trump by miles, but would not be adequate enough to tackle The United States economic and social problems, as well as its terrible foreign affairs policies.

Another top nominee contender, Josh Shapiro, has been publicly bitter about Kamala Harris’ team questioning him if he was an Israeli spy during the auditing process of the VP selection process, despite volunteering at an IDF army base during high school and spending six months working in the Israeli embassy at Washington D.C. It is mind bending on why Harris and her team would even consider picking him to be the Vice President, which would have further alienated the pro-Palestinian vote, but Shapiro decided to vent his eyebrow raising frustrations in his memoir, appearing as hypocritical and catty. This is in great contrast to Ocasio-Cortez, who has not shown an embarrassing level of arrogance, but instead is focused on portraying herself as strong, a leader, and down to earth. Unlike Shapiro who has claimed “Palestinians will not co-exist peacefully”, clamping down on anti-genocide protesters and Trump whose name is branded on the Epstein files.

Many Democrats argue that running someone as progressive as AOC is unrealistic, which is entirely false, because during the 2024 US Presidential election, a portion of NY voters had a Trump/AOC ticket. Mind boggling, but the main reason this phenomenon happened was due to both of them being ‘anti-establishment’. One comment reads “both of you push boundaries and force growth”. Being a billionaire, who is also friends with other billionaires like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg who control our social media feeds, as well as having many sexual assault allegations under his belt being ‘growth’, it must mean Ocasio-Cortez is 7 foot tall. On an election level, Ocasio-Cortez’ ability to appeal to many Trump voters is a significant advantage, as Newsom, Harris and Shapiro could be viewed as establishment liberals, and in an environment where people want more, they will either stray left or right, by a lot.

Following on from the release of the Epstein files, if Ocasio-Cortez was to campaign on releasing ALL of the unredacted files, her possibility of winning skyrockets, as plenty of Trump supporters were actually disappointed with his involvement with Epstein. And some others, although a smaller minority by far, are ashamed at ICE’s recent actions, which could translate into votes for someone who will actually hold harmful wrongdoers to account.

Denouncing the clear oligarchy that is happening in the US, and packaging left wing ideology as ‘common sense’ politics, the progressive who shared the same ticket as Trump on many ballots, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a genuine chance of winning the 2028 presidential nomination. Even though it is a little optimistic, because Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom are ranked higher than her in the polls, if the Democrats want to finally put a stop to Trump's and soon to be Vance’s regime, Ocasio-Cortez is the best way forward.
