Apply to:

Write our politics newsletters

We are recruiting people to write The Round-Up and The Lie In (launching in October).

Interested in writing our finance newsletter Market Watch? Find out more here.

The Lie In is yPolitics' daily newsletter focussing on the news driving the day (Monday - Friday during term time).

The Round Up is our weekend newsletter covering key political analysis of the past week (Saturdays).

Newsletters are a central part of yPolitics and we pride ourselves on keeping our readers up to date on the news that matters most.

Once we have recruited a small team, we will organise a rota (or equivalent); you won't have to write every morning and this can be a flexible role, i.e. you write every Monday's newsletter.

Role for The Lie In:

  1. Write The Lie In to be sent to the Newsletter Editor before 9am, so it can hit inboxes before 10am.
  2. Some of the news can be written the night before, but we envisage that you will have to write a chunk in the morning to ensure everything is up to date and accurate.

Role for The Round-Up:

  1. Write The Round-Up to be sent to the Newsletter Editor by Saturday morning.
  2. Cover what you think are the key issues from the past week and why they matter.

We can offer flexibility around university deadlines and exams.

Eligibility

  1. Current university student (in some instances we will accept recent grads or students pre-university so definitely still apply!)
  2. Strong writing skills
  3. Passion for politics and it's related fields
  4. Great communication skills

How do I apply?

jointheteam@ypolitics.co.uk

Email us including 'newsletter writer application' in the subject!

If you are a current uni student, use your university email address to apply (you can swap to your personal email later on).

Include:

  • A couple of sentences of background on you
  • Why you want to write our newsletters and why you would be a good fit
  • Any writing you have previously done that you are proud of (optional)

Don't include:

  • CV

If we think you would be a good fit, we will invite you for a quick 5-10 min Google Meet to explain how things work in more detail, answer any of your questions and onboard you. It's that simple.
